i watched ponyo, the latest miyazaki film last night. truth: i was disappointed. not to the max, or any other conceivable hyperbole, but it simply didn’t live up to my hopes and dreams. it was, overall, too childish. this! an animated film! meant for children! too childish! ha! i suppose i’ve grown accustomed to the milky white sap that flows from miyazaki’s teats, by which i mean his adult-themed fantasy anime. and by adult-themed, i guess i dont mean porn. although if he did porn i’ll be it’d be weird. anyhow. i think i just wanted to use “teats.”
the visuals weren’t as spectacular as usual either. ian was all like “aw dawg, you just gotta see it on the big screen where all the colors envelope you and surge through your neural capacitors like a pull from the crackpipe.” in response, i claimed the ocean (the primary setting for the film) looked like soup, and while i might want to live in all other land-based miyazaki landscapes, i dont particularly care to spend much time in a bowl of hot soup with noodles and chicken and tiny veggies and shit like that. it’d be gross.
i realize i haven’t updated this thing in forever. i’d like to try to rectify that, seeing as how i enjoy writing and i need to “practice” it in order to stay “phresh.” also, i feel like i’m really boring when i have nothing to write in my journal about.
